Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium, Amsterdam is the former Conservatorium Hotel, which became a Mandarin Oriental on 14 January 2026 as the group's first hotel in the Netherlands. The operator's release of 9 December 2024 had set the rebranding for January 2026 and said the hotel would stay open during the upgrade. The hotel itself has operated since 2011.
The building dates from 1897, when it was the Rijkspostspaarbank, the Dutch savings bank, and it later housed a music conservatory. Daniel Knuttel designed it, and Italian architect Piero Lissoni reimagined it as a hotel. It stands at Paulus Potterstraat 50 in the Museum Quarter, opposite the Stedelijk Museum, with the Van Gogh Museum two minutes away on foot and the Rijksmuseum six. The December 2024 release gives 129 rooms and suites, and the operator says guest rooms will be upgraded in phases, starting with the Deluxe Rooms.
Ottolenghi Amsterdam, Yotam Ottolenghi's first restaurant in the Netherlands, was due to welcome its first guests on 19 March 2026 and serves a vegetable-led menu in the glass atrium. Taiko continues under Head Chef Lars Drost, and the Lounge, known as the Living Room of Amsterdam, serves afternoon tea from Thursday to Sunday. The 1,000-square-metre Akasha Spa is described as the largest hotel spa in Amsterdam. DRIFT designed the Signature Fan, unveiled on 24 March 2026.
“From today, the Conservatorium Hotel becomes Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium, Amsterdam, under the management of Mandarin Oriental.”
The operator’s wording, read on its own page and last checked 1 November 2026.
